The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, has commended students of the KNUST Basic School for their hard work and dedication following their victory at the recently held Sections Day march-past competition.
The KNUST Basic School Sections Day is an annual programme organised to celebrate and honour past and present Vice-Chancellors of KNUST while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy competition among students.
The students, who belong to the “Professor Rita Akosua Dickson Section,” paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor at her office to present their trophy after emerging overall winners at the event.
Professor Dickson congratulated the students for their discipline and perseverance, noting that their achievement reflected the effort they had invested in rehearsals.
“A lot of practice and rehearsals went into achieving this victory,” she said. “Do you remember the long hours of rehearsing under the scorching sun? But at the end of the day, the trophy is in your hands. Congratulations.

She encouraged the students to remain focused on their dreams and to continue to listen to the guidance of their teachers.
“Whatever you want to become in life, achieving it is possible,” she noted. “It requires sacrifice, consistency, hard work, obedience and listening to what your teachers ask you to do. You are fortunate to have dedicated teachers who are ready to teach, mentor and bring out the best in you.”

Although she was unable to attend the Sections Day event in person, the Vice-Chancellor said she followed the activities through videos shared with her.
“I was unable to be at the event, but I received some videos, and I really enjoyed watching them. I still remember the steps when you were doing the ‘eyes right’, it was awesome,” she said. “You were all smartly dressed, just like today. I cannot be proud of you enough.’’

Mrs. Nana Oye Woodiez, Deputy Head of the KNUST Basic School, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for taking time to receive the students and expressed appreciation for her support ahead of the Sections Day celebration.

She added that the school is planning an excursion for the students as part of the activities following the event.
